......THE SEMINOLE CUP.......HOSTED BY QUAIL CREEK.....in OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA!.....2008.....
THE LAKE IS DOWN ALMOST 2 FEET!!! There is a panic around Okeechobee AND Florida. Hey Gator, maybe you need to come out to CaLEFTornia...now, I'll show you drought! PLEZZZ....
Anyway, I drove out to Quail Creek just to sniff around...GRANNY had already pulled in and getting instructions for set-up of the ESP electronic ear plugs exhibit. I caught her walking the dog...well, I guess you could call it that..while MIKE slaved away at the shop "smith'en"-->what a couple. They are everywhere, selling good products and delivering great service...I know I am a customer!
Who was driving that tractor? He kept playing chicken with me as I drove around. His job was to level out the new roadway...my job was to dodge his job! Made it difficult for me to take my eyes off the road and study the area....KIRK!
I am quickly beginning to think Florida may be the best State I have visited when it comes to SETTING UP SPORTING CLAY RANGES! I admit, this is only the second shoot I have attended, ---> the terrain, Wx and cool breeze....maybe I am impressed easily, but I really like it here. They say it's a great State, except for all the old people..oops, wait a minute, I'm an OLD PEOPLE, TOOO !..lol..lol..
Well, I can see I am just in the way here at QUAIL CREEK PLANTATION, so I'll go find an orange to eat or something. It's Florida right?...I'll be back in a day or so...
REGISTRATION:
There was a very short line...the crowd of maybe 500 will show up tomorrow. What a pleasure being in a short, fast line. All the important shooters came early. BOB LaPOR was there and said hello as he moved quickly from the
check-in to his fancy SUV..was that a Cadillac, Bob? Over on the side, I saw my old friend and radio co-host, Mark L. Kiddie plotting something with PAT LIESKI...I know that because, they came in the same uniform----> RED!
I made
a tour around the area checking out the VENDOR ROW. Met some new folks...I guess everyone knows BILL MAINS ENGRAVING...wow, nice work! He has done work for many Big Names in show business, and I can see why.
I had one last chore to do for my pal HEYWOOD CUNNINGHAM...get him registered to shoot! He was so busy at the RHINO RALLY that he forgot to register, then he was called down to help a friend in Stewart Beach. OK Heywood, you're signed up for everything, BUT you're stuck shooting with me as your punishment!..lol..lol.
WELL SHOOTERS DUE TO SOME UNFORTUNATE CIRCUMSTANCES I FEEL I MUST LEAVE THE SEMINOLE CUP, SO I HAVE PLACED THE REMAINING PHOTOS BELOW....REMEMBER JUST CLICK ON ANY PHOTO AND IT WILL GO FULL SCREEN FOR YOU TO COPY!
Hey BIG BOB LePOR! Now, if you have a chance, stop Bob and ask him how many Registered Targets he has shot in one year! Nice seeing you Bob, sorry we did not have more time to talk. But, call me, I am ready to help anytime!
AND.....how many of you know GARY WALSTROM? He is one of the select handful of level III NSCA Instructors AND ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER to the NSCA...shooting is a passion, but it's your head he really wants to get into...
Hey, HAL HARE...that famous radio personality AND if you have not seen HAL in breeches and Period Clothing...well, he's one step away from moving to Hollywood!
Then, there was BILL and LOUISE TERRY...Now that's Skeet Royalty!
There was also the RICH & FAMOUS...we first met at ADDYVILLE last year. The founder and inventor of the most popular eye wear, HIDEFSPEX! Mr. CARLO PILLA himself. I asked him how he came to be the one chosen to work at the SEMINOLE CUP? ...with sons...why you? "Because I'm here AND because I am the founder. Who better to answer questions and help customers." So, Carlo, if you were not here where would you like to be..." aaah, I would be shooting in Europe!"
Now, when you see "HALL of FAME" BRUCE NEY surrounded by the Jamaican Team members GREGORY H. CHONG and ERROL ZIADIE, you know your in for a good shoot AND lots of fun.
Only wish I had been able to spend more time with this Jamaican "Wild" Bunch! However, they did extend an invitation to come to Jamaica....little did they know I was married in Saint Mary's parish....go ahead guys, ask me one more time, and it will be a foot race between my wife and me to get on the plane!
Now, one of the things the radio is really, really, really strong on is, husbands and wives shooting together. It changes the dynamics of Sporting Clays--> as it did in Golf... but even more, because looking just over the horizon, I see HUSBAND & WIFE TEAMS competing in their own COUPLES TEAM shoot! Now, there is a fun idea...can't wait. Be sure and let me know if you hear of one taking place because, WE WANT TO BE THERE! So, "carry on" JACKIE & CARMI McROBERT!
As this edition comes to a close, I want to apologize to my squad for leaving before the Prelim ended...I was just putting together a good score when I had to leave...JARED RUMOR, if I did not know better, I would say you have been taking lessons from THE WENDELL CHERRY himself...if not, then I would say you are well on your way to the TOP!
I do want to thank "thee" who worked hard to make this a successful shoot and here are some photos of the "behind the scene" movers and shakers. THANK YOU ONE AND ALL!
Oh...before I forget. At every shoot there is a "BUZZ"...this years' buzz was about the HERO that jumped in and broke up a dog fight.
So, hats off to our HERO----> Mr. Kirk PERKINS!
Well shooters, I will be returning to CaLEFTornia sooner than I had planned. Next report....ALL AMERICAN KIDS & CLAYS in San Antonio at our beloved NATIONAL SPORTING COMPLEX, March 27th!
